Approximately 121,600 model-year 2019-20 Volvo S60 and S90L sedans; XC40, XC60 and XC90 SUVs; and V60, V60 Cross Country, V90 and V90 Cross County wagons are being recalled due to software issues. A software-hardware incompatibility may cause the automatic emergency braking system to fail and not detect obstacles and engage as intended, increasing the risk of a crash.
Volvo began notifying owners on May 1. Owners can call the automaker at 800-458-1552 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will update the active safety domain master software.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
