Chrysler has announced a recall on approximately 198,000 model-year 2017-19 Pacifica minivans equipped with stop-start due to battery issues. A loose battery ground connection may result in an intermittent loss of power steering assist or a stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners on June 28. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will inspect the battery ground surfaces, clean the contact surfaces as needed and properly reassemble the ground connection.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
