Approximately 25,000 model-year 2019 Fiat 500X hatchbacks and Jeep Renegade SUVs are being recalled due to software issues. Incorrect software may cause the occupant restraint controller module to disable certain passive safety feature, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Fiat and Jeep manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles began notifying owners on May 30. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will update the ORC module software.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
