Daimler Vans USA (DVUSA) is recalling approximately 17,093 model-year 2015-2018 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans due to a rearview camera issue.  A defective memory chip in the rearview camera may cause the display image to freeze, compromising visibility to the rear of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on March 21, 2022. Owners may contact DVUSA customer service at 877-762-8267 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

As an interim repair, dealers will update the rearview camera software that will result in a “black screen” instead of freezing the image in case a failure occurs. When remedy parts become available, dealers will replace the rearview camera.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
