Toyota has announced a recall of approximately 200 model-year 2019 Avalon Hybrid and Camry Hybrid cars due to fuel filler pipe issues. The fuel filler pipe may not have been properly reconnected to the fuel tank during an inspection after assembly, which could cause fuel to leak, increasing the risk of a fire.

Toyota began notifying owners at the end of March. Owners can call the automaker at 888-270-9371 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will inspect and replace the fuel filler pipe if necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
