Approximately 296,000 model-year 2019-20 Ram 1500 pickup trucks are being recalled due to issues with the occupant restraint controller. The flash memory of the occupant restraint controller may become corrupted, disabling the vehicle’s airbags and seat belt pretensions, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Ram manufacturer  Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners July 20. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will reprogram the occupant restraint controller or replace it, if necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
