Approximately 300 model-year 2019-20 Chevrolet Equinox SUVs are being recalled due to fuel tank issues. The fuel tanks may have been manufactured with an improperly sealed seam, possibly allowing fuel to leak along the seam near the fuel inlet. A fuel leak in the presence of the ignition source increases the risk of a fire.
Chevrolet manufacturer GM did not immediately provide an owner notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 800-222-1020 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the fuel tank.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
