Approximately 500 model-year 2018 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX SUV’s are being recalled due to issues with the door striker bolts. Some door striker bolts may be 5 millimeters shorter than the required length. If a crash occurs, a too short bolt may allow the door to open, increasing the risk of injury.

Lincoln automaker Ford did not immediately announce an owner notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem dealers will replace door striker bolts in all four doors.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the recall problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
