Approximately 26,800 model-year 2016-18 Cadillac CTS sedans, and model-year 2017 Cadillac ATS sedans, Chevrolet Camaro coupes and Chevrolet Corvette sports cars are being recalled due to power steering issues. The electric power steering assist system could fail, which would require a higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Cadillac and Chevrolet manufacturer GM began notifying owners at the end of March. Owners can call Cadillac at 800-458-8006, Chevrolet at 800-222-1020 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will replace the power steering gear assembly.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
