Ford has announced a recall of approximately 3,000 model-year 2019 Ranger pickup trucks equipped with 10-speed automatic transmissions due to issues with the transmission shift lever. The transmission shift lever can be moved from Park without the key in the starting system and without depressing the brake pedal, which could cause the pickup to move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
Ford began notifying owners on Feb. 22. Owners can call the automaker at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will inspect and repair the transmission floor shift selector interlock assembly, if necessary.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
