Infiniti has issued a recall for approximately 1,700 model-year 2019 QX50 SUV’s due to an issue with the trim cover on the passenger-side knee airbag module. In the event of a crash in cold temperatures, the trim cover could separate unexpectedly from the passenger-side knee airbag module instead of splitting at the trim cover tear seam as designed, increasing the risk of injury.

Infiniti will begin notifying owners on Oct. 22. Owners can call the automaker at 800-662-6200 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will replace the passenger-side knee airbag module.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the recall problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
