Approximately 460 model-year 2018 Mercedes-AMG SL65, model-year 2019 Mercedes-AMG SL63, and model-year 2018-19 Mercedes-Benz SL450 and SL550 coupes and convertibles are being recalled due to airbag issues. The front passenger airbag may have been improperly sewn, causing the seam to tear during deployment, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
Mercedes-Benz will begin notifying owners Oct. 1. Owners can call the automaker at 800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the passenger airbag.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
