Approximately 20,300 model-year 2018-19 Chrysler Pacifica minivans equipped with the 8.4-inch multimedia display, 360-degree camera, and seatback video screens are being recalled due to software issues. A software error can cause the backup-camera image to remain on the multimedia screen after the vehicle has been shifted out of Reverse, possibly distracting the driver and increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles began notifying owners on Jan. 31. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will update the software.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
