Approximately 13,000 model-year 2013-2018 Audi A8 and S8 sedans are being recalled because the seal around the engine compartment may come loose and contact hot engine components, increasing the risk of a fire.

Audi manufacturer Volkswagen began notifying owners on Sept. 4. Owners can call the automaker at 800-253-2834 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To remedy the issue, dealers will install a retaining plate to prevent the engine compartment seal from loosening.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
