The bushing that attaches the gear selector lever to the gearbox may degrade over time, causing the bushing to detach and allowing the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime. This could cause unexpected movement, increasing the risk of a crash and injury.
Porsche will begin notifying owners on Aug 11. Owners can call the automaker at 800-767-7243 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing. Owners are advised to use the parking brake until the repair is completed.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
