Mazda earns strong reliability rankings, and its defect file is smaller than most — but it is not empty. The cylinder-deactivation system introduced on 2018–2019 CX-5 and Mazda6 models produced a class-action-backed pattern of shudder and misfire complaints; older Skyactiv models drew infotainment-freeze complaints from the original CMU head unit; and Mazda has run federal recall campaigns for fuel pumps (the industry-wide Denso campaign), backup cameras, and software faults. The full record is on our Mazda problems and recalls hub.
Because Mazda problems are comparatively rare, dealers sometimes struggle to diagnose the ones that do appear — and a string of “could not duplicate” visits for a real drivability complaint builds a claim just as surely as a failed part. Multiple visits for the same symptom is the statutory test, whatever the diagnosis says.
Mazda’s warranty is three years or 36,000 miles basic and five years or 60,000 miles powertrain. Present the vehicle promptly each time a symptom recurs, and keep the paper — the shorter coverage window makes early documentation the whole game.
If your Mazda has been in the shop repeatedly for the same warranty problem, or has spent weeks out of service, you may have a lemon law claim. Get a free case review — it costs nothing unless we recover for you.
