Most common Lucid warranty defects

Lucid’s recall record on the Air and the newer Gravity is dominated by two themes: propulsion faults that can cause a sudden loss of drive power, and software that keeps having to be corrected, especially for the rearview camera. Because both the Air and Gravity are low-volume, high-priced vehicles serviced by Lucid’s own service centers and mobile technicians rather than a large dealer network, a single unresolved defect can mean long stretches without the car. That combination of safety-related defects, repeat software remedies and downtime is what makes careful documentation so valuable in a Lucid claim.

Lucid Air contactor, inverter and software faults causing loss of drive power

The earliest Lucid Air sedans have been recalled several times for losing propulsion. On 2022–2023 Air models, contactor switches that carry energy to the drive motors could open unexpectedly (23V-110), software 2.0.64 and older might not respond properly to an inverter power module failure (23V-523), the High Voltage Interlock software could open the contactors while driving after detecting a communication fault (24V-497), and on 2022–2024 cars running versions 2.1.2 through 2.1.26, a fault while adaptive cruise control was on could cut drive power (24V-076). Several of these were fixed over the air. If your Air has shown a propulsion warning or lost power again after those updates, the repeat event is the key fact.

Air Pure rear-wheel-drive half-shaft, harness and Gen 4 inverter defects

The single-motor Air Pure RWD has its own cluster of drivetrain recalls. On 2024–2025 cars, a rear subframe wiring harness may be too short, straining the connection and cutting power to the rear drive unit (24V-836). Improperly secured bolts may let a half-shaft disconnect from the drive unit on 2024–2026 Air Pure RWD models (25V-669), a campaign Lucid expanded in March 2026 (26V-193). Most recently, Lucid recalled 2024–2025 rear-wheel-drive Air sedans because the Gen 4 inverter may experience internal friction and fail, causing loss of drive power; the remedy is software that monitors for failure plus inverter replacement if one is detected (26V-309). A monitoring remedy means the part may fail later, so record every warning.

High-voltage coolant heater and defrost failures

Lucid recalled 2022–2023 Air vehicles in January 2024 because the high-voltage coolant heater may fail and leave the windshield unable to defrost (24V-011), then expanded the issue to 2022–2024 Air models in June 2024 (24V-495). The remedy pairs a software update that warns the driver of a heater failure with replacement of heaters that have failed, so the hardware is replaced only after it quits. In cold or humid weather, a heater failure affects both cabin comfort and visibility. Separately, 2022–2023 Air sedans received an over-the-air fix because rear seat heater temperature monitoring could stop working and allow the seats to overheat (23V-708). Repeated climate or defrost warnings after these remedies should be written up each time.

Rearview camera and display software that keeps needing new fixes

Few vehicles show the cycle of software remedies as clearly as the Air. A 2022 display wiring harness that may not be secured could disable the screens (22V-351). Then came rearview camera recalls for certain software versions up to 2.0.50 (23V-520), for versions before 2.8.0 where the lower console display might show no image or a delayed one (25V-670), and for cars with the AD02 package running 2.8.0 through 2.8.16, the very versions that followed the prior fix (26V-017). The Gravity received its own camera recall for software before 3.3.20 (26V-018). When each update fixes one version and breaks another, owners can be left with a recurring camera or screen failure, and that history is useful evidence.

Gravity launch software and seat and restraint defects

The Gravity SUV had a difficult start. Lucid’s interim CEO acknowledged in May 2025 that the company had technical issues to overcome around software and the head-up display, and in December 2025 Lucid promised fixes after owners complained about key fob detection, door latching and being unable to shift into Drive. Recalls followed: incorrect front seat backrest covers that may prevent side air bags from deploying correctly on 2026 Gravity (25V-855), and second-row lap belt anchor brackets with insufficient welds on 2025–2026 Gravity (26V-192). An early-build Gravity with multiple software and hardware visits deserves a close review of its full repair history.

Exterior lighting circuit overheating and early Air hardware recalls

In August 2026, Lucid recalled 2022–2026 Air sedans because the exterior lighting circuit may have insufficient overcurrent protection and can overheat; owners were told to park outside and away from structures until the over-the-air remedy was completed (26V-540). Early 2022 cars also saw hardware campaigns: a front strut snap ring that could fail and cause a sudden drop in ride height or damage the front brake line (22V-090), a front tow eye bracket that could detach during towing (22V-727), and wiper arm nuts that could loosen and stop the wipers (23V-521). An Air that has been through several of these campaigns plus propulsion or software repairs may have accumulated significant time out of service.

Signs your Lucid may be a lemon

  • Repeated loss of drive power. A second propulsion warning or power cut on an Air, especially after contactor, inverter or harness work, is a serious continuing defect.
  • Camera or screens fail again after an update. The rearview camera or displays drop out on a newer software version after an earlier recall fix.
  • Gravity access and shifting problems that persist. Key fob detection, door latching or shift-to-Drive failures that continue after software releases meant to fix them.
  • A “monitor and replace” remedy that ends in a failure. The inverter or coolant heater fails after the warning software was installed and the car goes back in.
  • Long stays at the service center. Weeks waiting for parts or a technician add to the days-out-of-service count many states consider.

What Lucid’s warranty means for a claim

Lucid’s US limited warranty provides basic vehicle coverage for 4 years or 50,000 miles, powertrain coverage for 8 years or 100,000 miles, and high-voltage battery coverage for 8 years or 100,000 miles with a 70% capacity retention threshold. The supplemental restraint system is covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles, and corrosion perforation for 10 years with unlimited miles. Lucid’s certified pre-owned program adds 12 months or 12,000 miles after the basic coverage ends. The same terms apply to the Air and the Gravity.

Many Lucid fixes are delivered as over-the-air updates, and several recalls use a “monitor first, replace on failure” approach, which means a part can remain in the car until it fails. Keep a log of the software version and date whenever a warning appears, photograph the message, and ask for a repair order for every service center or mobile visit, including ones where the technician could not reproduce the issue. If the car is out of service while parts are ordered, note the drop-off and return dates.

A recall is not a claim

An open recall on your Lucid is not, by itself, a lemon law case — and a recall that has already been repaired does not mean you don’t have one. Recalls are safety campaigns run by the manufacturer; lemon law claims turn on how your specific vehicle has performed under warranty. What matters is the record: how many times you brought the vehicle in for the same problem, how many days it has spent out of service, and whether the defect substantially impairs its use, value, or safety while covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

A Lucid that has been back to the dealer repeatedly for one persistent issue can qualify with no recall on file, while a vehicle with three open recalls may not qualify at all if each was repaired on the first visit. Repair-attempt and days-out-of-service thresholds vary from state to state, so the same facts can play out differently depending on where you bought or registered the vehicle. Keep every repair order — the paper trail is the case.

Frequently asked questions about Lucid lemon law claims

Does a software recall fix on my Lucid Air count as a repair attempt?

It can, depending on your state. Lucid has remedied many Air recalls over the air, including propulsion and camera issues, and an update aimed at a specific defect is evidence that Lucid tried to fix it. The problem is that updates may not produce a repair order. Record the version number and date, keep Lucid’s notices, and if the defect returns, schedule service so a technician documents it in writing.

My Air Pure is under the inverter recall but hasn’t failed. What should I do?

Complete the over-the-air update and keep the confirmation. The 26V-309 remedy on 2024–2025 rear-wheel-drive Air sedans monitors for a Gen 4 inverter failure, and Lucid replaces the inverter if one is detected. If you then get a warning or lose drive power, that is a covered failure under the 8-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty, and it belongs in your repair record. Repeat drivetrain events after the half-shaft or harness recalls are especially significant.

Is an early Lucid Gravity more likely to have problems?

Lucid itself acknowledged software issues during the Gravity’s launch in 2025 and later promised fixes after owner complaints about key fobs, door latches and shifting. Early-production 2025 and 2026 Gravity SUVs are also covered by seat and restraint recalls. That does not make every Gravity a lemon, but an early SUV with recurring access, shifting or warning-light problems across multiple visits should have its history reviewed.

What if Lucid’s service center can’t reproduce my problem?

Intermittent faults like a camera that goes black, a propulsion warning or a key that isn’t detected often do not appear on demand. Ask that the repair order still list your complaint, the date and the mileage, even if no repair is made. Provide photos or video of the warning and the software version. A documented complaint counts as notice of the defect, and a series of them shows the problem is real and recurring.

Does Lucid’s warranty cover the high-voltage battery if range drops?

Lucid’s high-voltage battery warranty runs 8 years or 100,000 miles and covers capacity falling below 70% during that period. Ordinary gradual range loss above that threshold is generally not treated as a defect. Sudden range loss, charging failures or battery warnings are different and should be reported. If a battery or thermal-management problem keeps returning after repairs, it can support a claim like any other recurring defect.
