Most common INFINITI warranty defects

INFINITI’s recent repeat-repair complaints center on the 2.0L VC-Turbo engine in the QX50 and QX55, build-quality recalls on the current QX60, camera and infotainment software on the redesigned 2025 QX80, and engine-management and display faults on the last Q50 and Q60 sport models. INFINITI’s longer 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain coverage means many engine and transmission complaints on 2020 and newer models are still inside the warranty, which shapes how a claim is evaluated.

QX50 and QX55 VC-Turbo engine bearing failures

The QX50 and the coupe-styled QX55 use INFINITI’s 2.0L variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) four-cylinder. NHTSA investigation PE23-023 looked into engine failures after owners reported knocking noises and a loss of engine power while driving, and identified bearing failures linked to manufacturing defects. Recall 25V-437 followed, covering certain 2019–2022 QX50 and 2022 QX55 models along with Nissan Rogues and Altimas. The remedy is a reprogram of the engine control module rather than new bearings. Because a software-based engine recall does not physically repair the engine, any return of knocking, power loss or warning lights afterward should be reported immediately and in writing. The same engine family now powers the 2025 and later QX60.

QX60 seat, restraint, lighting and brake recalls

Since the 2022 model year, the QX60 has accumulated a run of build-quality recalls. They include a second-row seat track missing a mounting bolt (2022), a second-row seat that could travel past its stop and fail to lock (2023), a driver’s power seat that may not be fully secured to its frame (2023), a front lap-belt pretensioner missing a rivet (2024), and a driver air bag inflator that could absorb moisture (2024). Recall 23V-814 reconfigured 2022–2024 QX60s whose adaptive headlights could aim downward at highway speeds, and recall 25V-173 covers front brake calipers with reduced strength on 2025 QX60s. Individually these are recall repairs; together, they can mean a QX60 that keeps returning to the retailer.

2025 QX80 camera and infotainment software faults

The redesigned 2025 QX80 replaced the long-running V8 with a twin-turbo 3.5L V6 and a nine-speed automatic, and its early recalls are software problems: recall 24V-747 reprograms the Around View Monitor on 2025 QX80s because the rearview camera could freeze and show a blank screen in reverse, recall 24V-748 addresses another blank-camera error, and recall 25V-821 fixes an infotainment startup error that keeps the camera image from appearing. A separate 2026 recall corrects the axle weight rating on certification labels for QX80s with 22-inch wheels. On the outgoing V8 model, recall 21V-373 replaced fuel pumps on 2020–2021 QX80s whose impellers could swell and fail. With a new engine, transmission and electronics all arriving at once, early-production 2025 and 2026 QX80s deserve careful repair records.

Q50 and Q60 engine power reduction and display faults

INFINITI ended the Q50 sedan after the 2024 model year and the Q60 coupe earlier, but late-model cars are still within powertrain coverage. Recall 21V-234 reprogrammed the engine computer on 2021 Q50 and Q60 models because, after detecting rapid acceleration, it could wrongly reduce engine power and fuel supply. Recall 21V-599 updated software on 2021 Q50, Q60 and QX80 models whose audio/video screen could shut off and take the rearview image with it. Recall 21V-402 inspected front steering knuckles and rear axle housings on certain 2021 Q50 and QX50 models (and 2020 QX60s) that may have been improperly heat-treated. Power reductions under acceleration and blank displays are intermittent, so dated notes and video help establish that a problem is real and recurring.

Signs your INFINITI may be a lemon

  • A VC-Turbo engine that knocks again. Your QX50 or QX55 had the bearing recall’s software update and you still hear knocking or lose power.
  • A QX60 that keeps going back. Your QX60 has returned for seats, belts, lighting or brakes, with a different fix each time and no end in sight.
  • A QX80 camera that freezes. Your 2025 QX80’s Around View Monitor or rearview camera still goes blank after the software updates.
  • Unexplained power cuts in a Q50 or Q60. The engine pulls back power under acceleration, and the retailer finds no stored fault.
  • Weeks without your vehicle. Parts or software delays have kept your INFINITI at the retailer for long stretches.

What INFINITI’s warranty means for a claim

INFINITI’s 2026 warranty booklet lists basic coverage of 48 months or 60,000 miles and powertrain coverage of 72 months or 70,000 miles, which covers the engine, transmission, drivetrain, and the air bags and their electronic controls. Body panels that rust through are covered for 84 months regardless of mileage, and seat belts for ten years. Those periods are longer than Nissan’s, so a 2021 or 2022 QX50 or Q50 may still have powertrain coverage even after its basic warranty has expired. Coverage begins on the date the vehicle is delivered to the first retail buyer or put into service, whichever is earlier, so a former loaner or demonstrator may have less time left than its model year suggests.

INFINITI retailers frequently address engine, camera and infotainment complaints with software reprogramming, and an intermittent fault that does not appear during a test drive may be closed with no repair. Keep a log with dates, mileage and photos or video, and make sure each repair order states your complaint as you described it. INFINITI’s booklet also states that owners must first use the BBB AUTO LINE program before certain federal warranty claims and, where state law provides for such a program, before state lemon law remedies. Vehicles bought or leased in California carry an arbitration agreement with a 30-day opt-out after delivery.

A recall is not a claim

An open recall on your Infiniti is not, by itself, a lemon law case — and a recall that has already been repaired does not mean you don’t have one. Recalls are safety campaigns run by the manufacturer; lemon law claims turn on how your specific vehicle has performed under warranty. What matters is the record: how many times you brought the vehicle in for the same problem, how many days it has spent out of service, and whether the defect substantially impairs its use, value, or safety while covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

An Infiniti that has been back to the dealer repeatedly for one persistent issue can qualify with no recall on file, while a vehicle with three open recalls may not qualify at all if each was repaired on the first visit. Repair-attempt and days-out-of-service thresholds vary from state to state, so the same facts can play out differently depending on where you bought or registered the vehicle. Keep every repair order — the paper trail is the case.

Frequently asked questions about INFINITI lemon law claims

My QX50 had the VC-Turbo engine recall. Is it still a lemon if problems continue?

It can be. Recall 25V-437 reprograms the engine computer on certain 2019–2022 QX50 and 2022 QX55 models; it does not replace the bearings NHTSA’s investigation linked to engine failures. If the engine knocks, loses power or fails after the update, each visit for that problem counts toward the repair history. INFINITI’s 6-year/70,000-mile powertrain warranty may still cover the engine on many of these vehicles.

Do the QX60 recalls count toward a lemon law claim?

Recall repairs are warranty repairs, and the QX60 has had recalls for seats, seat belts, an air bag inflator, adaptive headlights and front brake calipers. Lemon laws generally look at repeated attempts to fix the same defect or total days out of service, so unrelated recalls may not add up the same way. But if one problem keeps returning, or the combined visits keep your QX60 off the road for weeks, the record can matter. Ask for a copy of every repair order, including recall work, and check that the mileage and dates are correct.

The new QX80’s camera keeps freezing. What should I document?

Record the date, the time, whether you were starting the vehicle or shifting into reverse, and what the screen showed, ideally with a short video taken safely while parked. Several 2025 QX80 recalls involve camera and infotainment software, and some fixes can be delivered by software update. Bring the vehicle in each time, ask that the retailer note every prior occurrence, and keep your recall notices. If an over-the-air update was installed, note the date it arrived, since it may not appear on a repair order.

Is INFINITI’s warranty longer than Nissan’s?

Yes. INFINITI lists 4 years or 60,000 miles of basic coverage and 6 years or 70,000 miles of powertrain coverage, compared with Nissan’s 3 years/36,000 miles and 5 years/60,000 miles. Corrosion perforation coverage is also longer at 84 months. Even when vehicles share engines, as the QX50 and Rogue share VC-Turbo technology, the INFINITI warranty terms are the ones that apply to your INFINITI.

Do I have to use BBB AUTO LINE before filing an INFINITI claim?

INFINITI’s warranty booklet says owners are required to use BBB AUTO LINE before seeking certain federal warranty remedies, and before state lemon law remedies where the state’s law provides for that type of program. Whether that applies depends on your state, and the decision you make there can affect later options. Get advice before you file, and keep copies of everything you submit.

INFINITI discontinued my model. Does that affect my claim?

No, the warranty still applies after a model is discontinued. The Q50 ended after the 2024 model year, and INFINITI announced that QX50 and QX55 production would end in December 2025. Discontinued models can face slower parts supply, which can add days out of service — a factor many state lemon laws consider. Keep dated repair orders showing when parts were ordered and when your vehicle was returned.
