Most common Genesis warranty defects
Recent Genesis recalls center on fuel delivery in the turbocharged G80, GV70, GV80 and G90, the Integrated Charging Control Unit in the electric GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80, digital instrument displays that go dark, and a handful of serious drivetrain and driver-assistance faults. Several of these defects cause loss of drive power, and a few have needed more than one recall to address. Genesis backs its cars with long warranties, so a recurring defect on a 2021–2026 model is very often still a covered repair.
Fuel pump failures causing loss of drive power
Fuel pumps are a repeated recall theme on gasoline Genesis models. Hyundai Motor America recalled 2021–2022 G80 and GV80 and 2022 GV70 vehicles because the fuel pump may fail and cause a loss of drive power (23V-630), then recalled 2022–2023 GV70, GV80, G80 and G90 vehicles for the same consequence (24V-282). The G70 has its own campaign: 2019–2023 G70s received an engine control software update and fuel pump inspection or replacement for failures that can cut power (24V-528), after an earlier 2021 G70 2.0-liter recall for a fuel pump jet nozzle that could be blocked by a plastic burr (20V-569). A stall or sudden power loss in traffic is a safety defect, and a repeat after the recall remedy is a key fact.

Fuel pipe and turbo oil feed leaks on 2.5T and 3.3T engines
Leaks in the engine bay are another Genesis pattern. On the 2.5-liter turbo, the high-pressure fuel tube on 2021 G80 and GV80 vehicles may not seal properly (21V-208). A much broader 2026 campaign covers 2022–2026 GV70, 2023–2025 G90, and 2021–2025 G80 and GV80 because fuel may leak where the fuel pipe meets the fuel rail; retailers inspect, tighten or replace the pipe (26V-229). On the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, the left turbocharger oil feed pipe may deteriorate and leak oil on 2019–2022 G70 and 2017–2022 G90, as well as some earlier G80s (24V-191). A fuel or oil smell that comes back after one of these repairs should be reported immediately and documented.

ICCU failures on the GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80
Genesis electric models share an Integrated Charging Control Unit defect with Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. In March 2024, Hyundai Motor America recalled the GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80 because the ICCU may be damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can lead to a loss of drive power (24V-204). That remedy was superseded: the campaign was replaced in November 2024 by 24V-868, and vehicles already repaired under the first recall need the new remedy, which includes inspecting and replacing the ICCU and its fuse as necessary and updating software. A dead 12-volt battery, charging failures or a power-loss warning after either repair is a strong sign the defect continues.

GV60 rear driveshaft fractures
The all-wheel-drive GV60 has been recalled twice for rear driveshafts. In April 2023, Hyundai Motor America recalled 2023 GV60 AWD models because the rear driveshafts may fracture and cause a loss of drive power, with both left and right shafts replaced (23V-300). In February 2024, 2023 GV60s were included in a further recall because the rear inner driveshaft may have been improperly heat-treated and could break under load (24V-065). The GV60 also has a recall for a stainless-steel molding at the top of the windshield that may detach on 2023–2025 models (25V-624). A clunk, vibration or loss of drive from the rear after driveshaft work should be reported and inspected promptly, since it may indicate the repair did not resolve the defect.

Instrument panel display failures across the lineup
Genesis instrument panel displays have needed three recalls for software errors that can make the display fail, putting the vehicles out of compliance with the federal standard for controls and displays. The first covered 2023–2024 G80 and GV80, 2025 GV70 and 2023–2025 Electrified GV70 (25V-105). A second covered 2023–2025 G90 and GV60, with software updated over the air or by a retailer (25V-474). A third, filed in January 2026, covers 2025–2026 G80, GV80, GV70, GV60 and Electrified GV70 and 2026 Electrified G80, and owners were told to disable the HD radio feature until the remedy is performed (26V-019). A gauge cluster that blacks out again after an update is a recurring defect worth documenting with photos.

G90 radar false braking and GV70 Park-to-Neutral shifting
Two Genesis-specific safety defects stand out. On 2023–2026 G90 sedans, the Highway Drive Assist corner radar may falsely detect another vehicle and cause sudden, unintended braking; owners were told not to use Highway Drive Assist until the front bumper beam is replaced (25V-833). On 2024 GV70s, water may leak into the transmission control harness and cause a short that shifts the transmission from Park to Neutral, and owners were advised to turn off the ignition and set the parking brake until the harness is inspected and repaired (24V-205). Either defect returning after the recall repair should be reported immediately and documented in writing.

Signs your Genesis may be a lemon
- The engine stalls or loses power more than once. A G80, GV70, GV80 or G90 that loses power again after a fuel pump recall replacement has a continuing defect.
- Your electric Genesis keeps killing its 12-volt battery. Repeat 12-volt or charging failures on a GV60, Electrified GV70 or Electrified G80 after one or both ICCU recall repairs.
- The gauge cluster goes black again. Instrument panel failures that return after a display software recall update.
- Fuel or oil smells after leak repairs. Odors or visible leaks on a 2.5T or 3.3T engine after fuel pipe, fuel tube or turbo oil feed work.
- Unexpected braking or shifting. A G90 that brakes for vehicles that are not there, or a GV70 found out of Park, after the recall repair.

What Genesis’s warranty means for a claim
Genesis’s US New Vehicle Limited Warranty runs 5 years or 60,000 miles. Powertrain coverage extends to 10 years or 100,000 miles for original owners of new Genesis vehicles. The EV battery warranty covers the high-voltage battery and EV-specific propulsion and power control components for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Anti-perforation coverage runs 7 years with unlimited miles, roadside assistance runs 5 years, and new vehicles include 36 months of complimentary scheduled maintenance. Certified pre-owned Genesis vehicles get limited warranty coverage to 6 years or 75,000 miles and powertrain coverage to 10 years or 100,000 miles from the original purchase date.
Genesis recalls are filed with NHTSA by Hyundai Motor America, and several, like the ICCU campaign, are shared with Hyundai models while others are Genesis-only. Recall remedies are often software updates, inspections, or repairs only “as necessary,” which can leave the underlying problem in place. Ask your Genesis retailer for a repair order on every visit that lists your complaint, the recall number if one applied, and what was actually done, and keep any recall letter telling you not to use a feature or to park outside.
Genesis recalls and problem reports
No Genesis articles match that exact combination — but that does not mean you do not have a claim. Repeat repair attempts, days out of service, and warranty status matter more than whether a recall exists.
A recall is not a claim
An open recall on your Genesis is not, by itself, a lemon law case — and a recall that has already been repaired does not mean you don’t have one. Recalls are safety campaigns run by the manufacturer; lemon law claims turn on how your specific vehicle has performed under warranty. What matters is the record: how many times you brought the vehicle in for the same problem, how many days it has spent out of service, and whether the defect substantially impairs its use, value, or safety while covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.
A Genesis that has been back to the dealer repeatedly for one persistent issue can qualify with no recall on file, while a vehicle with three open recalls may not qualify at all if each was repaired on the first visit. Repair-attempt and days-out-of-service thresholds vary from state to state, so the same facts can play out differently depending on where you bought or registered the vehicle. Keep every repair order — the paper trail is the case.

Jason S. HegedusManaging Partner & FounderFrequently asked questions about Genesis lemon law claims
Does the Genesis 10-year powertrain warranty apply if I bought my car used?
The 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain coverage applies to original owners of new Genesis vehicles. If you bought a certified pre-owned Genesis, the CPO program extends powertrain coverage to 10 years or 100,000 miles from the original purchase date and limited warranty coverage to 6 years or 75,000 miles. A non-certified used Genesis may still have time left on the 5-year or 60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Whether used vehicles qualify for lemon law protection depends on your state.
My GV60 or Electrified GV70 was fixed under the ICCU recall. Why did it fail again?
The first ICCU recall, 24V-204, was replaced by 24V-868, and vehicles already repaired under the first campaign need the newer remedy, which includes inspection and replacement of the ICCU and its fuse as necessary and a software update. If your vehicle lost 12-volt charging or drive power after one or both repairs, keep every invoice and tow receipt. Repeat ICCU failures are covered under the EV battery and propulsion warranty and are strong evidence of a continuing defect.
Are the Genesis fuel pump recalls a lemon law issue?
A recall by itself is not a claim. But fuel pump failures on the G70, G80, GV70, GV80 and G90 can cause a loss of drive power, which is a serious safety defect. If your Genesis stalled or lost power before the recall and again afterward, or if it has needed multiple fuel system visits, including for the fuel pipe leak recall, the combined repair history can support a claim. Keep records showing each symptom and each repair.
Is a Genesis claim different from a Hyundai claim?
Genesis is Hyundai Motor Group’s luxury brand, and Hyundai Motor America files Genesis recalls with NHTSA, but Genesis vehicles carry their own warranty terms, including complimentary maintenance and a 5-year or 60,000-mile basic warranty. Some defects, like the ICCU, are shared with Hyundai’s electric models. Others, like the G90 Highway Drive Assist radar recall and the GV60 driveshaft recalls, are specific to Genesis. Your claim is built on your own vehicle’s repair records.
What should I do if my G90 brakes suddenly on the highway?
Stop using Highway Drive Assist, as recall 25V-833 advises, and schedule the front bumper beam replacement. Write down the date, speed, road and weather of any false braking event, and save dashcam video if you have it. If unintended braking continues after the bumper beam is replaced, return to the retailer immediately and ask that the repair order describe the event. Repeat sudden braking on a G90 is a serious safety defect.
