Most common Bentley warranty defects

On 2020–2026 Bentleys, the problems that show up in federal recall filings and owner complaints cluster in three places: fuel delivery on the Bentayga and the newer V8 engines, software-driven electronics such as seats, cameras, parking sensors and climate controls, and the high-voltage systems Bentley has added with its plug-in hybrids. Because Bentley’s dealer network is small and many fixes depend on a software release or a factory part, one fault can mean repeat visits and long stretches without your car—the record a lemon law claim is built on.

Bentayga fuel supply module and fuel line leaks

The Bentayga has been the subject of two separate fuel-leak recalls. NHTSA campaign 23V-592 covers 2017–2023 Bentaygas in which the fuel supply module wiring can overheat and melt the flange, allowing fuel to leak; dealers replace the flange and the wiring. An earlier campaign, 20V-321, addressed an engine-compartment fuel line quick connector on 2019–2020 models that could leak, and the fix was a new line and connector. The practical warning sign is a fuel odor around the car or in your garage. A fuel leak is a fire risk, so it carries more weight than a cosmetic complaint. If the odor returns after the recall work, or the dealer has the car more than once for the same smell, each visit should be written up on its own repair order with your description of the problem.

Continental GT and GTC seat-control and climate-pump electrical faults

The third-generation Continental GT and GTC, sold through the 2024 model year, have drawn recalls tied to their electronics. Campaign 21V-550 covers 2020–2021 coupes and convertibles whose automated front-seat movement can trap a rear passenger’s legs; the remedy is a seat software update. One owner complaint filed with NHTSA describes a car kept at the dealer for 24 hours for that recall with the seat still not fixed. Campaign 23V-034 covers 2020 GT and GTC models in which liquid can enter the external coolant pump for the climate control system and short-circuit it, creating a fire risk; dealers install an improved pump. When a software fix does not hold, or the same electrical fault comes back after a parts replacement, the repeat visits are what count toward a claim.

Rearview camera, parking sensor and touchscreen glitches

Bentley has recalled both its SUV and its sedan for rear-camera faults. Campaign 22V-743 covers 2021–2022 Bentaygas in which a software error can leave the rearview camera image blank in reverse; dealers update the infotainment software. Campaign 20V-452 covers 2020 Flying Spurs in which moisture can get into the Top View rear camera holder and blur the image. Owner complaints filed with NHTSA describe related problems outside those recalls: a 2020 Flying Spur with recurring park distance control faults that also took out the rear camera, and a 2021 Bentayga whose touchscreen climate controls worked only intermittently. Intermittent electronics are where “could not duplicate” answers are most common, so dated photos and video of the fault are worth keeping.

Bentayga Hybrid battery overheating and the new plug-in hybrid powertrains

Bentley’s plug-in hybrids are the newest part of its lineup, and they have already drawn a battery recall. Campaign 25V-811 covers certain 2023 Bentayga Hybrid models whose high-voltage battery may overheat while charging, raising a fire risk. The remedy is a battery software update, with battery replacement if needed, and owner letters went out in January 2026 (see our 2023 Bentayga Hybrid recall summary). The hybrid share of the lineup is growing: Bentley ended W12 production in 2024, and the 2025 Continental GT Speed moved to a V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain. Charging faults, hybrid-system warnings and battery work on a car this new deserve careful records, because a high-voltage battery that cannot be made reliable is a substantial defect, not a nuisance.

Build defects on 2025–2026 V8 Continental and Flying Spur models

The newest Bentleys have drawn recalls for assembly errors. Campaign 25V-648 covers 2025–2026 Continental GT and GTC and 2025 Flying Spur models in which the bolted joint securing the high-pressure fuel pump to the V8 Evo engine may be improperly tightened, causing a fuel leak; dealers inspect the joint and replace the pump as needed (recall details). Campaign 26V-330 covers 2026 Continental GT and GTC cars built with an incorrect, shorter front driveshaft that can let the hub nut loosen, causing vibration and possible loss of steering control. Even the tire placards on some 2025 and 2026 Bentaygas were recalled (26V-181 and 26V-231). Several unrelated repairs in a new car’s first months also matter: some states look at total days out of service, not only repeat attempts on one problem.

Signs your Bentley may be a lemon

  • A fuel smell that keeps coming back. Your Bentayga or V8 Continental has returned to the dealer for a fuel odor or leak after the recall work was already done.
  • Software updates that don’t stick. The seat, camera or infotainment fault returns after a reflash, and each repair order simply says the software was updated.
  • Hybrid charging or battery warnings. Your Bentayga Hybrid, Flying Spur Hybrid or new Continental GT Speed shows hybrid-system warnings, stops charging, or needs high-voltage battery work.
  • “Could not duplicate” on an electrical fault. Parking sensors, the rear camera or touchscreen controls fail on the road but behave at the dealer, and you leave without a repair.
  • Weeks without your car. Your Bentley has waited on parts or factory support, or been transported to a distant dealer, and the days out of service keep adding up.

What Bentley’s warranty means for a claim

Bentley’s US new-vehicle warranty runs three years with unlimited mileage, and powertrain coverage runs for the same three years and unlimited miles, with three years of roadside assistance. Certified by Bentley pre-owned cars carry a one-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, are eligible up to 10 years old, and can be extended. If you own a Bentayga Hybrid, Flying Spur Hybrid or one of the newer V8 hybrid models, ask the dealer for the written terms that apply to the high-voltage battery and hybrid components so you know exactly what is covered and for how long.

Unlimited mileage cuts both ways. A hard-driven Continental GT stays under Bentley’s warranty for the full three years, but many state lemon laws use a shorter window, so the dates of your first repair visits matter. Several Bentley recall remedies are software updates—seat control on the Continental GT, the Bentayga rearview camera, the Bentayga Hybrid battery—so a fault that returns after a reflash is a repeat repair attempt, not a new problem. Keep every repair order and make sure each one records your complaint in your own words, the mileage, and the dates in and out. If your car is trucked to another dealer or held waiting for parts, keep those records as well; they document days out of service.

A recall is not a claim

An open recall on your Bentley is not, by itself, a lemon law case — and a recall that has already been repaired does not mean you don’t have one. Recalls are safety campaigns run by the manufacturer; lemon law claims turn on how your specific vehicle has performed under warranty. What matters is the record: how many times you brought the vehicle in for the same problem, how many days it has spent out of service, and whether the defect substantially impairs its use, value, or safety while covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

A Bentley that has been back to the dealer repeatedly for one persistent issue can qualify with no recall on file, while a vehicle with three open recalls may not qualify at all if each was repaired on the first visit. Repair-attempt and days-out-of-service thresholds vary from state to state, so the same facts can play out differently depending on where you bought or registered the vehicle. Keep every repair order — the paper trail is the case.

Frequently asked questions about Bentley lemon law claims

Is my Bentayga a lemon if the fuel smell returns after the recall repair?

It can be. The Bentayga’s fuel supply module recall (23V-592) and the earlier quick-connector recall (20V-321) target specific leak points. If your car still smells of fuel afterward, the defect has not been fixed, and each later visit for that problem counts as another repair attempt. Because a fuel leak is a fire risk, many states require fewer attempts for a serious safety defect than for an ordinary one. Ask the dealer to note on each repair order that you reported a fuel odor and whether a leak was found.

Does Bentley’s unlimited-mileage warranty extend my lemon law rights?

Not automatically. Bentley’s warranty covers the car for three years regardless of mileage, but each state’s lemon law sets its own protection period, often measured in months or miles from delivery. A Continental GT used as a daily long-distance car can pass a state’s mileage cutoff while still under Bentley’s warranty. Defects first reported inside the state’s window can still qualify even if the repairs continue later, and warranty breaches outside it may be addressed under federal warranty law.

My Bentley has been waiting weeks for parts. Do those days count?

Generally, yes. Most lemon laws count the days your car is out of service for warranty repairs, whether the delay comes from diagnosis, a software release or a backordered part. That matters for Bentley owners because the dealer network is small and some repairs depend on parts or engineering support from the factory. In many states a loaner does not change that count. Keep the dates in and out on every repair order, along with any dealer messages about parts status.

Can I bring a claim on a Certified by Bentley pre-owned car?

Possibly. Some states cover used cars bought while the original Bentley factory warranty is still running, and a certified car also comes with Bentley’s one-year certified warranty. Whether that certified coverage triggers lemon law rights depends on your state. If you bought a two-year-old Bentayga with time left on the original three-year warranty, repairs during that remaining period are the strongest footing. Federal warranty law can also apply to breaches of the certified warranty.

Is the new hybrid Continental GT Speed treated differently from the old W12 cars?

No. Lemon laws apply to any defect covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, whatever the powertrain. The practical difference is that the V8 plug-in hybrid is new, so dealers have less repair history to draw on, and the 2025–2026 cars have already seen recalls for the high-pressure fuel pump joint (25V-648) and, on some 2026 cars, the front driveshaft (26V-330). Write down every hybrid-system or charging warning, including the date and mileage, and photograph the message on the screen.

What should I bring when I take my Bentley in for an intermittent electrical fault?

Bring proof the fault happens. Dated video of the warning, the blank camera screen or the unresponsive control is the best answer to “could not duplicate.” Note the conditions too: one 2020 Flying Spur owner’s complaint to NHTSA tied recurring parking-sensor faults to rain and snow. Ask the service advisor to write your description on the repair order before the car is diagnosed, and ask for a copy even if no repair is performed. A visit with no fix still shows the car was presented for the defect.
