Over 200,000 model-year 2018-2019 Buick LaCrosse sedans and Regal cars, Cadillac XTS sedans, Chevrolet Equinox SUV’s. Impala sedans, Cruze cars, Volt hybrids, and Bolt EV electric vehicles, GMC Terrain SUV’s, and model year 2018 Chevrolet Malibu cars are being recalled due to problems with the rear brake caliper pistons. The rear brake caliper pistons may have an insufficient coating that can cause gas pockets to form, potentially reducing rear brake performance and increasing the risk of a crash.

An owner notification schedule has not been announced yet by the manufacturers involved. Owners can call Buick at 800-521-7300, Cadillac at 800-458-8006, Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, GMC at 800-462-8782 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will bleed the vehicle’s brake system.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refused to fix the recalled problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
