Volvo is recalling 27,457 model-year 2023 S60, V60, V60CC, V90CC, XC60, XC90, XC40, and C40 vehicles due to a potential software issue within the brake control module. A diagnostic error in the brake control module can shut down the antilock braking system, and stability and traction control systems. A reduction in brake support functions can increase the risk of a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on March 15, 2023. Owners may contact Volvo customer service at 800-458-1552 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, Volvo will release an over-the-air (OTA) brake control module software update.
