Kia is recalling 31,943 model-year 2023 Telluride vehicles. Due to a manufacturing error, the wire harness for the second row seat side air bags may become damaged, causing them not to deploy in the event of a crash. Air bags that do not deploy as intended increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 28, 2023. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect and replace or secure the air bag wire harness, as necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
