2022 Rivian R1T Recall

Rivian is recalling certain model-year 2022 R1T trucks due to an airbag issue. The occupant sensor in the front passenger seat assembly may not be calibrated correctly which could cause the airbag to stay activated when a child or child seat occupies the front passenger seat. A child in the front seat may be at a greater risk of injury in the event of a passenger airbag deployment during a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 1, 2022. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 734-855-4345 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, Rivian Service Centers will replace the front passenger seat. Owners are advised to not place children or child seats in the front passenger seat until the recall repair is completed.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
