Hyundai is recalling certain model-year 2022 Ioniq 5 vehicles. A software error in the Shifter Control Unit (SCU) may disengage the parking mechanism, potentially allowing the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on July 10, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 855-371-9460 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, dealers will update the Shifter Control Unit software. Owners are advised to use the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) when parking their vehicles until the remedy has been performed.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
