Audi is recalling 1,047 model-year 2022-2023 A8 and S8 vehicles due to an air bag issue. During assembly, the front-passenger occupant protection flap of the air bag may not have been folded correctly. In the event of a crash, an incorrectly folded air bag can deploy with too much force, increasing the risk of injury to a child or small person who is seated and unbelted on the front passenger seat.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by April 14, 2023. Owners may contact Audi customer service at 800-253-2834 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the front-passenger air bag module.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
