Nissan is recalling 20,040 model-year 2021 Versa and Kicks vehicles due to a power steering issue. A manufacturing fault within the electronic power steering torque sensor could cause a sudden power steering failure. If this happens while the car is in motion, the driver may suddenly need to use more effort to steer the vehicle, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on November 9, 2022. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 800-867-7669 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect the steering column torque sensors and replace the steering column assembly, as necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
