Ford is recalling certain model-year 2021 F-150 trucks due to an error in the transmission software. The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) for low transmission fluid pressure may falsely activate and cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into neutral while in motion, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on May 2, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, dealers will update the transmission software.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
