Approximately 1,200 model-year 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio SUVs are being recalled due to airbag issues. The side curtain airbags may have an improperly crimped clamp that could allow the airbag cushion and inflator to separate, causing an incomplete deployment or preventing airbag deployment, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Alfa Romeo automaker Stellantis will begin notifying owners on May 19. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the side airbag inflatable curtain assembly.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
