Ford is recalling approximately 58,200 model-year 2021-2022 F-150 trucks due to a driveshaft issue. Underbody heat and noise insulation panels may loosen, which could fracture the aluminum driveshaft and cause the truck to lose power. If the damaged driveshaft comes in contact with the ground, the driver could lose control of the vehicle. Additionally, if the driver parks the F-150 without using the parking brake, the truck could roll away. Any of these scenarios increase the risk of a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on September 5, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-3246 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect and repair the driveshaft, as necessary, and properly attach the underbody insulators.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
