Ford is recalling approximately 115,000 model-year 2021-2022 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles because the rear brake linings may have been manufactured incorrectly. During certain situations, the driver may have to apply more brake pedal force, and the distance required to stop the vehicle may be extended, increasing the risk of a crash.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on January 10, 2022. Owners may contact Ford customers service at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
The remedy is still under development.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
