Approximately130 model-year 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 and GLE450 SUVs are being recalled due to fuel tank issues. The connection between the fuel filler pipe and the fuel tank may have been improperly welded, allowing a fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source and increasing the risk of a fire.
Mercedes-Benz will begin notifying owners Oct. 1. Owners can call the automaker at 800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the fuel tank.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
