Kia is recalling 36,417 model-year 2020-2022 Telluride SUVs equipped with a Genuine Kia 4-pin tow hitch harness due to a fire risk. Debris and moisture accumulation on the printed circuit board for the tow-hitch harness module may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire, increasing the risk of injury. The harness may have been installed as original equipment or as an accessory through a dealer.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on October 14. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

The remedy is currently under development. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
