Hyundai is recalling approximately 72,740 model-year 2020-2022 Venue vehicles due to a seat belt issue. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioner(s) may explode upon deployment. An exploding seat belt pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, possibly striking occupants, increasing the risk of injury.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on August 26, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 855-371-9460 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
To fix the problem, dealers will add a cap to secure both front seat belt pretensioners.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
