Hyundai is recalling 245,030 model-year 2020-2022 Palisade SUVs equipped with a tow hitch harness due to a fire risk. Debris and moisture accumulation on the printed circuit board for the tow-hitch harness module may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire, increasing the risk of injury. The harness may have been installed as original equipment or purchased as an accessory through a Hyundai dealership.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on October 17, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 855-371-9460 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.
As an interim repair, dealers will inspect the tow hitch module and remove the fuse, as necessary. The final remedy is currently under development. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete.
Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
