Approximately 135,000 model-year 2020-22 Buick Encore GX SUVs and model-year 2021-22 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUVs are being recalled due to issues with the emergency jack stand. If the jack is not positioned exactly as directed in the vehicle owner’s manual, it can fracture while in use, causing the vehicle to drop and increasing the risk of injury.

Buick and Chevrolet manufacturer GM will begin notifying owners on July 26. Owners can call Buick at 800-521-7300, Chevrolet at 800-630-2438, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, dealers will replace the emergency jack.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
