Approximately 5,500 model-year 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 heavy-duty pickup trucks and 3500 chassis-cab trucks are being recalled due to brake issues. The brake calipers may have been manufactured with an incorrect assembly fluid. This could cause the caliper’s rubber seals to swell and the brakes to drag, potentially overheating the brakes and increasing the risk of a crash.

Ram manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles began notifying owners on Oct. 18. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will replace the front brake calipers, replace the brake hoses and bleed the brakes.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
