Approximately 100 model-year 2019 Mercedes-AMG E53, E63 wagons, and E63 S wagons are being recalled due to airbag issues. An incorrect driver’s airbag and software version may have been installed, which could cause the restraint systems to malfunction during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Mercedes-Benz will begin notifying owners on Feb. 4. Owners can call the automaker at 800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To remedy the issue, dealers will inspect and replace the driver’s airbag and update the airbag software, as necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
