Approximately 130 model-year 2019 Honda Clarity Fuel Cell, Clarity Electric and Clarity Plug-In Hybrid cars with rear seat belt assemblies with a dual-mode locking mechanism are being recalled because the seat belt may not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Honda began notifying owners on July 13. Owners can call the automaker at 888-234-2138 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will inspect the rear seat belt assembly production dates and replace the assemblies, as necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
