Approximately 18,000 model-year 2019 Ford Ranger pickup trucks built at the Michigan Assembly Plant Aug. 1 – Sept. 27, 2019, because the climate control blower motor may have been built with an improper clearance between an electrical terminal and the conductive base-plate slot that could cause a resistive electrical short. This condition could result in the motor overheating, melting, smoking or causing a fire, increasing the risk of an accident or injury.

Ford did not immediately announce an owner notification schedule. Owners can call the automaker at 800-392-3673 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will inspect the climate control blower motor and replace it if it is within the suspect part production dates.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
