2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500 Recall

Approximately 148,000 model-year 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks are being recalled for a second time due to electronic brake control module software issues. The trucks were recalled in December 2019 and may have received software with errors that can disable the electronic brake assist, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chevrolet and GMC manufacturer GM will begin notifying owners Feb. 10. Owners can call Chevrolet at 800-222-1020, GMC at 888-988-7267 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will reprogram the electronic brake control module software.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
