BMW has announced a recall on approximately 1,800 model-year 2019 X7 SUVs due to airbag issues. The driver and passenger head airbags may not have been properly aligned with the trim during installation, which could impair them during deployment, increasing the risk of injury.

BMW will begin notifying owners on July 15. Owners can call the automaker at 800-525-7417 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will inspect and reinstall the head airbags, if necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
