Approximately 425,600 model-year 2019-20 Ram 1500 and 1500 Classic pickup trucks and Jeep Compass SUVs are being recalled due to windshield wiper issues. The windshield wiper arm or arms may loosen, possibly causing the wipers to not operate properly and reducing the driver’s visibility in certain weather conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

The recall is expected to begin May 29. Owners can call Jeep and Ram parent company Fiat Chrysler Automobiles at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will tighten the wiper nuts.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
