Approximately 9,000 model-year 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLE350 and GLE350 4Matic, GLS450 4Matic and GLS550 4Matic SUV’s and model-year 2018 Mercedes-AMG GLE43 4Matic, GLE63 4Matic, GLE63S 4Matic and GLS63 4Matic SUV’s are being recalled due to issues with the rear brake caliper pistons. The pistons may not have been correctly coated, which could cause gas to become temporarily released into the rear brake hydraulic circuit, reducing braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will begin notifying owners in early September. Owners can call the automaker at 800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem dealers will bleed the rear axle brake system.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the recall problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
