Approximately 33,200 model-year 2018-20 Jeep Wrangler SUVs and model-year 2020 Gladiator pickup trucks equipped with manual transmissions are being recalled because the clutch pressure plate may overheat and fracture, increasing the risk of a fire. The fractured pressure plate could also cause a loss of drivability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Jeep manufacturer Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will begin notifying owners on April 22. Owners can call the automaker at 800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

The repair procedure is under development, but documents from the NHTSA show that the fix will include a new pressure plate.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
