Approximately 9,800 model-year 2018-19 Mercedes-Benz and Mercedes-Maybach S560 luxury sedans equipped with 4.0-liter V-8 engines are being recalled because two engine oil plugs may not withstand high engine loads during driving, possible resulting in an engine oil leak. An engine oil leak can spill on to the road and cause slippery road conditions. Also, if the engine runs out of oil, it can cause a stall during driving. Either scenario can increase the risk of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz will begin notifying owners on May 19. Owners can call the automaker at 800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To remedy the issue, dealers will replace the engine oil plugs.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
