Approximately 800 model-year 2018-19 Mercedes-AMG GLC63, GLC63 coupe and GLC63S SUVs are being recalled due to issues with the airbag control unit software. The frontal airbag may have a delayed deployment for certain unbelted front-seat passengers, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.

Mercedes-Benz began mailing interim letters to owners on Feb. 8. A second letter will be mailed once remedy parts become available. Owners can call the automaker at 800-367-6372 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will update the airbag control unit software parameters.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
