Approximately 94,000 model-year 2018-19 Acura MDX SUVs and Honda Pilot SUVs; model-year 2019 Acura RLX and RLX Sport Hybrid sedans and TLX sedans; and model-year 2019 Honda Odyssey minivans and Ridgeline pickup trucks are being recalled due to timing belt issues. The timing belt teeth may separate from the belt, which could cause the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Acura manufacturer Honda will begin notifying owners on June 1. Owners can call the automaker at 888-234-2138 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To fix the problem, dealers will inspect and replace the timing belt if necessary. Also, vehicles receiving a replacement timing belt will have the engine inspected and any damaged components will be replaced.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
