Tesla is recalling 24,064 model-year 2017-2022 Model 3 vehicles due to faulty seat belts. The second-row left seat belt buckle and second row center seat belt anchor may have been incorrectly reattached after a previous service visit where the seat belt anchor was removed for another repair. Both components share a bolt. The loose anchor can increase the risk of injury to rear seat occupants in the event of a crash.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by December 20, 2022. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 877-798-3752 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, Tesla technicians will inspect the rear seat belt anchor and fasten the bolt to the correct specification, if necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
