Kia is recalling certain model-year 2017-2019 Sedona, Soul, and Soul EV vehicles, model-year 2017-2018 Forte vehicles, and model-year 2017 Forte Koup vehicles due to an air bag issue. The Air Bag Control Unit (ACU) cover may contact a memory chip on the printed circuit board and damage the electrical circuit. Circuit damage may result in deactivated air bags that will not deploy in a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on March 21, 2022. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle safety hotline at 888-327-4236 to learn more.

To resolve the issue, dealers will inspect the Air Bag Control Unit, and either update the software or replace the unit, as necessary.

Vehicle manufacturers are legally required to repair any recalled issues or replace the defective part for free under the Highway Safety Act of 1970. If the dealership refuses to fix the problem or attempts to charge you for the repair, contact the manufacturer immediately.
